Brother Mark John, from Guyana, South America, shares how he came to know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Raised in a Pentecostal family, he first met missionaries when they stopped by his home. Although his family initially wasn’t interested, 14-year-old Mark felt something special about them and wanted to learn more. As the missionaries taught about the Book of Mormon and Jesus Christ, he felt uplifted and drawn closer to the Savior. Over time, both he and his sister grew interested, and eventually even his grandmother softened toward the Church.

Preparing to return to the temple after eight years was challenging, especially because his full-time job required him to work six or seven days a week. His employer was hesitant to give him time off, but Brother Mark persisted, explaining how important it was for him to attend the temple and renew sacred ordinances to strengthen himself and bless his family.

When he finally returned to the temple, he described feeling overwhelmed with joy and peace. He felt uplifted, filled, and spiritually strengthened—like receiving an “extra boost” he had long needed. He testified that the temple is the house of the Lord, a sacred and peaceful place where one can feel close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

He encourages members who live near a temple not to take that blessing for granted. Having waited many years between visits, he urges others to attend as often as they can to receive spiritual strength and guidance. To those hoping to attend the temple someday, he advises them to keep praying, remain faithful, attend church, read the scriptures, and trust that the Lord will make a way—just as He did for him.
