A Promise, a Miracle, and the Temple: Shaun Geerman’s Journey to Panama
Temple journeys often begin long before a plane ticket is booked or a suitcase is packed. For Shaun Geerman of Aruba, that journey began with a quiet, heartfelt prayer and a simple promise made to God.
At a time when Shaun felt the need for change in his life, he went into his room and asked for direction. As he began cleaning, he opened a drawer and discovered something unexpected—a Book of Mormon. Moved by the moment, Shaun placed the book in his room and again prayed, asking for a sign. This time, he made a promise: whatever was shown to him, he would accept it.
Just three days later, while shopping at a Chinese supermarket, Shaun casually greeted a group of missionaries. They rode up on their bikes, introduced themselves, and asked if they could visit his home to share their message. His first instinct was to say no—but a thought came clearly to his mind. He remembered the promise he had made. Trusting that prompting, Shaun agreed. That simple decision became the beginning of a life-changing journey.
Learning the gospel and understanding the scriptures did not come easily at first. Shaun openly shared that the Book of Mormon was challenging to understand, but through patience, friendship, and consistent support from the missionaries, his family, and others who worked alongside him, something remarkable happened. Those relationships grew into bonds that felt like family. The change he experienced—from who he once was to who he is now—became one of the greatest miracles of his life.
Those experiences prepared Shaun for a sacred opportunity: traveling to the Panama City Panama Temple to perform temple work for his deceased relatives. For him, this was more than a trip—it was a righteous and miraculous chance to offer his family members a second opportunity to come to know God and receive sacred ordinances.
When Shaun first entered the temple, he was struck by its beauty and simplicity. The experience felt extraordinary—unlike anything he had ever felt before. Though he was far from Aruba, he described a deep sense of peace and comfort, saying he felt “like I was home,” even though he knew he was not. Inside the temple, he found a quiet, holy feeling that he had never experienced anywhere else.
Shaun now shares a simple but powerful message for anyone hoping to attend the temple one day: it is worth it. Being in the house of the Lord, he says, is a sacred privilege. He encourages others to go for it—to take the step—because the work done in the temple blesses not only ourselves, but also our deceased loved ones.
Shaun’s story is a testimony of promises kept, prayers answered, and the quiet miracles that unfold when faith meets action. Temple Bound Saints is honored to have assisted in this journey and grateful to witness how the Lord continues to guide His children—one promise, one trip, and one temple at a time.
